The Kea‘au High boys soccer team notched its first win in blowout fashion, defeating visiting Makua Lani Christian 6-0 on Wednesday at Kea‘au HS.

Ezra Hampton had a superb outing, notching his first hattrick of the season. The Cougars’ other three goals were each accounted for by Rayden Handy, Dane Ramey and Gustavo-Adrian Ramirez.

Kea‘au goalkeeper Luke Laa posted his first shutout of the season.

Now 1-0-1, the Cougars will look north — playing their next outing at 4 p.m. Tuesday away against Hilo High at the UH-Hilo soccer field. Kea‘au’s girls team will also face off against the Vikings, kicking off at 2 p.m.

The Lions are 0-1, and will have their next chance to get in the win column at 3 p.m. today at Kealakehe High.

Ka Makani earns first win

Hawaii Prep girls soccer took care of business Wednesday afternoon in Waimea — beating Kealakehe 5-2 for its first win of the early season. The Waveriders dropped to 0-2.

HPA had five different players score — Mixtli Lindsey-Robles (22’), Alice Marinho (28’), Madie Buczyna (48’ and 52’) and Dani Rojas-Castelblanco (68’).

Kealakehe’s lone scorer was Naia Garana, who posted goals in the 32nd and 63rd minute.

Ka Makani will next host Hilo at 2 p.m. Saturday in Waimea, while the Waveriders will enjoy a week off before returning to the field Wednesday at Waiakea.

Waveriders enter win column

Kealakehe boys soccer earned its first victory of the season Wednesday after a 2-1 edge over HPA in Waimea.

The Waveriders scored with three minutes remaining to secure the win.

Kealakehe (1-1) will look to ride its momentum against Makua Lani at 3 p.m. today at Old Airport. Ka Makani will host Hilo at 4 p.m. Saturday in Waimea.
